{"id":1186471,"date":"2026-02-20T07:48:19","date_gmt":"2026-02-20T15:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/?p=1186471"},"modified":"2026-02-20T08:13:37","modified_gmt":"2026-02-20T16:13:37","slug":"eric-dane-famous-last-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/eric-dane-famous-last-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Eric Dane Recorded &#8216;Famous Last Words&#8217; With Netflix Before His Death at 53"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Netflix announced the day after actor Eric Dane died at the age of 53 that the <em>Euphoria<\/em> and <em>Grey&#8217;s Anatomy <\/em>actor had recorded an interview with the channel&#8217;s <em>Famous Last Words<\/em> series, with the understanding that it would be released posthumousty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dane died less than a year after his diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, also known also as Lou Gehrig&#8217;s disease.The <em>Famous Last Words<\/em>&nbsp;episode follows one previously recorded with conservationist Jane Goodall. The series &#8220;gives audiences around the world the opportunity to hear from a cultural icon after they\u2019ve passed away,&#8221; Netflix explained in a news release Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dane&#8217;s interview was conducted by Emmy Award winner Brad Falchuk last November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEric and I were the same age when we discussed his life and legacy, so the conversation felt uniquely moving and personal,\u201d Falchuk said in a statement. \u201cThere was no self-pity in Eric. He refused to complain. He was brave, soulful, charming, joyful, grateful, and hilarious \u2014 and when he flashed that smile, he was undeniably still a leading man. His final words at the end of the episode are truly beautiful. I will miss him.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Eric Dane&#8217;s <em>Famous Last Words<\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"iframe-container\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Eric Dane | Famous Last Words | Netflix\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jWrj28_cjsQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The interview begins with Falchuk wheeling Dane out onstage in a wheelchair, and joking: &#8220;You&#8217;re stuck here with me now.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dane then tells Falchuk that in spite of his health troubles, &#8220;my spirit has been surprisingly, pretty buoyant throughout this journey. &#8230; There&#8217;s no reason for me to be, you know, happy in any individual moment, but I am.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also says that though he may look well, he feels &#8220;like I sound like a frog.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Falchuk replies: &#8220;I sit here in nothing but respect and awe of you and your strength.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He adds that one purpose of the interview is to help Dane&#8217;s children remember him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a weird concept to kind of grapple with,&#8221; Dane says. &#8220;You and I are talking here right now, and we&#8217;re both very alive and at the same time, when this exists, if it ever does, I won&#8217;t be here.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Falchuk adds that Dane will be &#8220;speaking from the dead,&#8221; and Dane agrees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dane&#8217;s sense of humor shines through the interview. When Falchuk reads him his biography, Dane quips that it feels like there&#8217;s &#8220;an interesting story in there.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also says that he relates to his <em>Euphoria <\/em>character&#8217;s double life, because of his own past struggles with drugs and alcohol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born on November 9, 1972, in San Francisco, California, Dane began acting in the early 1990s with roles on shows including <em>Saved by the Bell<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>The Wonder Years<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Roseanne<\/em>,&nbsp;<em>Married\u2026. with Children,<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Charmed.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He gained widespread popularity with a guest role in&nbsp;<em>Grey\u2019s Anatomy&nbsp;<\/em>as the dashing Dr. Mark \u201cMcSteamy\u201d Sloan, and was soon added to the show as a leading man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In April 2025, Dane publicly announced that he had been diagnosed with ALS, a progressive neurological disease that affects muscle control. He became an advocate for others battling the disease and returned to the set of&nbsp;<em>Euphoria<\/em>&nbsp;for Season 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He died Thursday, leaving behind two daughters, Billie and Georgia, to whom he addressed his last words. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/title\/82053197\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\"><em>Famous Last Words<\/em>&nbsp;docuseries began<\/a>&nbsp;with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/jane-goodall-famous-last-words-documentary\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Goodall, <\/a>who died on Oct. 1, 2025. In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.moviemaker.com\/jane-goodall-blast-trump-musk-netanyahu-space\/\">her interview<\/a>, she said she wished she could blast certain people into space, including Elon Mush and President Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This series is based on the notable Danish TV format of the same name \u2014&nbsp;<em>Det Sidste Ord<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 and includes &#8220;icons who have made indelible marks on society and culture,&#8221; Netflix said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each interview is conducted in extreme privacy, with only the interviewee and interviewer present.
